SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

32/64 bits Windows (tm) operating systems (Win7/8/10)
PC with >2GHz Processor
>2Gb RAM
>12MB of free disk space

###########################################################################################################################
OVERVIEW

Before starting, please read carefully the following installation information.

SYSTEM ENGINEER is an easy to use application for setting up, controlling and monitoring a system of APG devices in a uniform and consistent way across multiple networks (Ethernet, RS232, BVNet and audio network DANTE)

The FIRMWARES are the internal programs for DMS26, DMS48 processors and DA amps DSP.
They manage audio processing functions as well as communication between processors and SYSTEM ENGINEER-equipped computers.

It is essential to keep these FIRMWARES updated to benefit from the full computing power of the devices.

The FIRMWARES are updated from SYSTEM ENGINEER. Please first install SYSTEM ENGINEER and proceed to FIRMWARE updates via Network connection between the PC and the devices.

BEFORE INSTALLATION

This setup requires the .NET Framework 3.5, or 4.0.
The full .NET Framework is required (not only profile client or SDK release).
You can download the latest version on Microsoft (tm) website.

Some compatibility issues can be encountered with .NET 1.1. or 2.0, so you may need to uninstall before installing 3.5 with Microsoft .NET Framework removal tool.
In that case any software you have that needs 1.1 or 2.0 will no longer work.

###########################################################################################################################
SYSTEM ENGINEER SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

* Execute the installation program available in this package called "setup.exe", and follow the instructions of installation wizard.
* If a window asks you for network access authorisations (firewall settings), you will need to grant access at least to Public Networks
* Update the devices firmware with latest version (see below)

CONNECT DEVICES TO THE COMPUTER

# For DMS48, DA15:4 and DA50:4

Devices can be remotely controlled via the Ethernet port at the rear of the device.

Simply plug the device to the same network as the computer with SYSTEM ENGINEER.
Please make sure that both computer and DMS48 are in automatic IP addressing mode.
It is strongly recommended by APG to use a DHCP router between devices and computer.
If a device is directly connected to the computer with CAT5 cable (ie. without DHCP), it can be necessary to wait between one and two minutes before the devices set automatically their IP adresses. During this time, the devices "online" led will blink.
Wait until the led stop blinking before going Online in the software.

Once the network set up is done, launch SYSTEM ENGINEER software by double clic on its icon.
Verify that Ethernet network is present in the "System View" ("Ethernet" appears in the left panel, in the "Device View" view). If it's not, go to "Networks", "Add Networks…" and select "Ethernet".

Clic on "On line" button or "Ethernet" network item to scan network for devices.
The devices should show up in Sytem View.
If not, first check IP adresses of computer and device (they should be in the same domain, you can try to ping devices to trouble shoot IP settings and cabling or wifi issue).
If this looks good and SYSTEM ENGINEER still cannot find any device, check firewall settings (integrated Windows firewall, and also maybe third party firewall, router integrated firewall etc.), you should de-activate firewall, or create a rule to allow SYSTEM ENGINEER software UDP communication thru your network adapter.

# For DMS26

The DMS26 can be connected to a computer and controlled in 3 different ways :

* RS232 serial port
You can connect the DMS26 to the the RS232 serial port on your computer with a serial cable (SUB-D, 9 pins male). The cable must be equipped with SUB-D 9 pins connectors male and female, not crossed, and with pins 2 (Rx), 3 (Tx) and 5 (Gnd) linked.
This method only works on computers with RS232 port (which is not the case anymore for the majority of recent models).

* USB-RS232 adapter
If you don't have an RS232 serial port, it is possible to use a USB adapter correctly set up.
APG can supply a certified adapter and technical support on this product, do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

* BvNet network
For BVNet network use, you need a specific BvNet to USB adapter, as well as an optional BvNet card on your DMS26. The BvNet-USB adapter must be plugged to the computer via USB, and the DMS26 linked to the adapter with RJ45 cables(you can have several daisy-chained processors).
Note : if the DMS26 do not have the optional BvNet card, it is still possible to plug it to the BvNet with a serial cable, but in this case daisy-chaining is impossible.

Then, the "COM" network corresponding to the connection between DMS26 and computer must be added to the SYSTEM ENGINEER network list, via the "Networks", "Add Networks" command.
SYSTEM ENGINEER may propose several COM ports for the connection (COM1, COM2...). It is necessary to either identify the correct COM port (for instance via Windows peripheral manager) or to add all COM networks in order to identify the right one (it is advised to keep only the useful networks and to remove the others, in order to accelerate the software connecting time).

WARNING :
Virtual COM ports (used by USB-RS232 adapters and BvNet adapters) can be attributed differently from one startup to another. If connection problems happen, please verify that the correct COM port is selected in SYSTEM ENGINEER.

DMS26, DMS48 AND DA FIRMWARE UPDATE

* Update to the latest SYSTEM ENGINEER version.
* Start the SYSTEM ENGINEER application.
* Go Online, you should see devices in the System View tree below your network adaptor.
* It's recommended that you first backup your presets if needed by going to "File", "Save as..." and saving it to your computer hard drive. You should tick "presets" and "snapshot" on the next popup window, accordingly to what you want to backup from device.
* Right clic on the device you need to update, select Update Firmware, then follow the instructions.
Alternatively, you can update several devices at the same time by right clicking on one device, clic on "properties", on the popup window tick the devices which need to be updated and clic on "Gang firmware update" button.
* Select the file with ".dfw" extension corresponding to your model (same model number)
* Load the up-to-date standard preset bank into each device : select "File", "Load Factory Setting" and open the StandardBank file with ".dfa" extension corresponding to your model. This will keep your custom preset with numbers above standard presets (>#32).
Alternatively, if you want to clean up the >#32 presets memory, use "Open device clone" and locate the standard_bank.dcl file instead.

WARNING :
Take great care not to disturb the device while it is reprogramming firmware since this could otherwise render the device inoperative .

DANTE optionnal audio network module firmware update

* Download and install the latest Dante firmware update manager from https://www.audinate.com/products/firmware-update-manager
(at this time latest version is 1.4.16.6)
* Connect computer to the device primary DANTE port (use Auto IP in the computer network adapter settings). As for SYSTEM ENGINEER, allow Dante Firmware Update Manager to use network thru your fire wall
* Launch Dante Update Manager and follow the instructions. If you cannot see your devices, check first IP settings, next firewall settings.
* The firmware files can be found in this installation package
* First check if LINDEX firmware is up to date (be carefull there are two different files for DA amps and DMS48). If not, first run this firmware update.
* Next check if BROOKLYN firmware is up to date, if not run the update.
